Every sportsman understands that to be successful at a sport you need the proper equipment, and that equipment needs to be properly maintained. In fishing, that means cleaning and caring for fishing rods, reels, lures, and other gear. Reels should be dried after every use and stored in a bag or box to protect them.

Drying and protecting, though, isn’t quite enough to keep your reels in tip-top condition. You also need to clean the reel once a year. Some anglers find cleaning their reel a little intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be. Yes, it requires some effort, but the steps aren’t difficult and the whole process only takes about an hour. Just follow the five simple steps below, and you should have no trouble keeping your reel in great condition.

Before You Begin

The first step to successfully cleaning your spinning reel is to gather supplies. You’ll need:

  • A clean towel
  • A small screwdriver (usually a Phillips head)
  • A small bottle of reel grease (or WD-40)
  • Five or six Q-tips
  • Some paper towels

Step One

Take the spinning reel off the rod, and then wipe off the reel with a couple of paper towels. The point in this first step is to get rid of the sand, dust or dirt that may be on the outside of the reel.

Step Two

You need to remove the handle. There are two ways to achieve this:

  • Loosen/remove a screw in the handle

OR

  • Hold the reel and turn the handle backwards.

Once you get the handle off, set it aside on the clean towel.

Step Three

Set the reel down so that the screws that hold it together are exposed. Take out the screws (usually 3 to 5) and place them on the clean towel next to the handle. On the reel, you should see a small place. Take off the plate and put it on the clean towel, too.

Step Four

With the plate removed, you’ll be able to see the inside of the reel. Inspect the inside, and with a Q-tip clean off any debris you see there. After that, take your reel grease and place a couple of drops on each gear. If you aren’t using reel grease, spray a little WD-40 on each gear. Once you’ve greased the gears, put a little grease or WD-40 on the handle, too.

Step Five

Reassemble the reel by following the disassembling process in reverse. First, replace the plate. Second, screw in the screws. Third, put on the handle. Fourth and last, either put the reel back onto the rod, or in its protective box or bag.

Now, take a step back and admire your handiwork. You’ve just cleaned your spinning reel. The process is pretty simple, isn’t it? All you have to do is take a little bit of time once a year, follow these five steps and you’ll enjoy your spinning reel for many years to come.

Putting together student travel tours usually means investing a lot of time and energy. So many things need to be done for the proper organization and planning that it can be difficult to even get started. Parents and other teachers might want to assist in organizing as well, which lends a few extra hands on the project, but many minds can mean getting sidetracked easily.

As many teachers and professors have been in the same shoes, here are some steps to follow that should make planning much easier, and the journey much more enjoyable.

Choosing A Destination For Cheap Student Travel

Usually a tour will be focused on a certain subject. Even though this can narrow down the options of where you can go, it’s good to come up with a list of possible destinations. Consider what the purpose of the tour is, what you want the class to get out of it, and how far you want to go to get there.

One of the most important aspects of the trip will probably be the budget. It’s a great idea to work directly with a travel tours company that focuses on cheap student travel. These companies can be well-versed in the best deals on student travel.

Planning The Perfect Travel Tours

Sometimes planning can get out of hand. There is so much that needs to be done, and while there may be many that want to help, it’s usually best to leave one person in charge of everyone else. It’s great to keep a running list of what needs to be done for the trip so that each item can be checked off as it is done. If you write everything down, you won’t forget anything, and the tour should run smoothly.

Usually parents want to help out with a class trip, either by chaperoning, planning, making calls, or fundraising. If you have a system in place to delegate some responsibilities to them, this should make the planning job a lot easier. To keep parents updated, you can send out weekly or daily emails depending on how soon the trip is. For those that don’t have email, phone calls might be the next best option. Relying on take home papers to keep parents up to date can be spotty, if at all effective.

Having parents involved from the beginning is a great way of making sure they have no issues with the budget of the trip. Making sure they know the tour is eligible for cheap student travel will help calm any fears of money up front. Fundraising, and getting accurate information about the deals on student travel will also assure them with regards to the final costs, this way they will have time to come up with the required funds for their child to go.

Controlling The Chaos

Having many students who are excited and having fun can quickly get out of control. To take care of this before a problem even starts, make sure you have enough chaperones for the trip. Even then it is important to discuss with students what will happen if anyone steps out of boundaries. In the case of an out of town tour, it is completely understandable that students would be in more trouble than normal if they cause any problems.

One of the benefits of getting the deals on student travel is that most of the time you will have places to yourselves. Hotels will have rooms blocked together for you, museums might give you the run of the place without other visitors, and transportation is usually so crowded by students that no one else would fit. During this time if there is trouble you can be sure that it doesn’t involve other citizens, which can be relieving, and helpful.

Remembering to ask for help and involving students and parents as much as possible will make any tours much easier to plan, as well as much more enjoyable. Following these three steps in addition to that, should provide for a fun experience for everyone involved, with an abundance of learning and enjoyment as well.

It is great to maintain a healthy lifestyle by exercising often, but in order to ensure that it is something you stick with, you should choose a way that you also find fun and enjoyable to do on a constant basis. Since surfing takes place in the waves of the salty ocean, with the breeze in your hair and the sun warming your back, it is a great thing to do to stay fit. It is simple to learn how to surf and by practicing your skills, you will be up and going in no time.

Before you begin, you need to make sure that the board you choose is a good fit for your height and that it has a nice feel to it. This is about six feet for a kid and anywhere from seven to nine foot for an adult or someone tall and you should make sure that you are comfortable when you stand up on it.

Pick a place that does not have too many people around because you do not want them getting in your way while you practice and you don’t want to accidentally hurt one of them. Make sure that you are not far that the lifeguard can’t see you because that would be dangerous.

When your first wave approaches, you want to head out for it straight on and not approach it at an angle. This will make the board tip, while going straight into it will cause it to be picked out and carried out smoothly. As the wave arrives, it should find you lying down on your stomach on your surfboard, getting closer to it by paddling your arms as it comes. By the time it goes under you, you should jump in the air and place your feet right in the center, balancing yourself as you land.

You might find it easier to try out this move on the dry land before heading out to try it in the middle of the waves. It can be easy to lose your balance or to miss and not land in the center and these things are key to doing a successful job, so prepare yourself before just heading out.

By practicing many times, you will find that it is simple to learn how to surf and you can’t even remember a time when you didn’t know how. You will be cruising along those waves like a pro in no time at all and looking for more adventure further out.
